Getting Ready for Rosie

My dance troupe has been working overtime to get ready for the BFLA show the last few weeks.  We did a mini photo shoot, unfortunately Rachel had to work and couldn't be in the pictures. But hopefully Deanna will be able to do her photoshop magic and put her in.

La Femme Fantastique- Exploring HerStory

It's time again for the annual BFLA -Belly Fusion Los Angeles show!  The theme this year is La Femme Fantastique and my dance troupe She'enedra is going to do a piece about Rosie the Riveters.  I assume most people are familiar with who Rosie was but maybe not.  During World War II when all the men were sent off to war the women were encouraged to go out and work in factories and many take traditionally male jobs to keep the country running.
Here is the famous icon of Rosie and a link to a wikipedia article about her which is very interesting...

For this piece I've gathered a few extra dancers to fill the stage out so we will have 7 dancers and a couple of handsome soldier boys too!

Here is the Facebook invitation to the show: https://www.facebook.com/events/1477113725882309/

Oasis of Belly dance award.

So by some random stroke of luck last year I won the Oasis of Belly dance contest and the voting is going on again! I laughed when I saw the catagory I'm nominated in! The others nominated are some of my personal heroes and goddesses, I won't be winning and don't mind ONE bit!!! I wouldn't even vote for myself (but I think my husband should vote for me)! The other nominees in the category are Ariellah, Suhaila, Rachel Brice, Tempest, Eva Chernik, Naimah, Michelle Joyce (I don't know the last two but I'm sure they are lovely ladies)! So anyway, like I said, last year I won and I chose Doctors without Borders for my charity. AND that is the cool thing about this contest, the winners get to choose a charity to donate the prize money to. So I think you should vote!

This is the peacock flower, on this one I embellished it with glass beads and added an antique Turkoman button and peacock feathers.
: )

itsy bitsy bits of stuff done on etsy.com

It's slow going trying to put my items up in the etsy shop. I have yarns I want to post but I need to count how many yards are in the skeins, then take their pictures, try to figure out how much to charge for shipping etc etc....

And I'm working really hard on my felted flowers I don't know if it's visible from the photo but they are really big 7" from end to end. The white one is made from yarn that I spun and knitted and felted. The button in the center is a vintage button I found in an antique shop somewhere. They are very labor intensive...it's not like buying yarn & felt from the craft store or something, and I'm asking $75 for each flower so far. I know that seems like a lot of money but there really is that much work and care in each one, probably much more. We have such screwed up ideas of how much is ok to charge or spend on stuff. Especially in a world where we can buy so many handmade looking things at super stores for cheap. It's confusing to everyone including me sometimes.
